Through The T. Rowe Price Program for Charitable Giving, you can recommend grant distributions from your account to charitable organizations that have local, regional, national, and international impact. You choose when the grant is made and the grant amounts from a low minimum of $250. Make grant recommendations online or by mailing or faxing a completed Grant Recommendation form.
Gain recognition for your giving
Grants you recommend to charitable organizations can identify you as the donor-advisor and provide the name of your account. You may also make a grant in honor or memory of a friend or family member. Or, if you wish, make grants anonymously.
Selecting grant recipients
Grants may be made to U.S. public charities, private operating foundations, and certain governmental entities. As a result of the Pension Protection Act of 2006, some supporting organizations are no longer eligible for a Program grant. Charitable causes supported by the Program include:
- Human relief and support services
- Religion
- Education
- Medical and scientific research
- Civic and cultural development
- Environmental and ecological preservation
- Other innovative charitable undertakings
Grants may not be used:
- To fulfill any preexisting pledge or private benefit (such as school tuition or scholarships benefiting named individuals, dues, membership fees, benefit tickets, or goods bought at charitable auctions).
- For lobbying, political contributions, or to support political campaign activities.
- To benefit a specific individual, private foundation, or foreign charitable organization.
- To provide a tangible benefit such as an in-kind token of appreciation, goods, or services for any individual or entity connected to the grant-making account.
Amount and number of grants
The minimum grant amount is $250. The number of grants you can recommend in a given calendar year is based on the total assets in your donor-advised fund account:

Grant reminders
Grants are made with assets from your donor-advised fund account and are not tax deductible. You enjoy the tax deduction when you contribute to The T. Rowe Price Program for Charitable Giving. The Program's Board of Directors has ultimate authority over grant activity, including the right to approve or disapprove grant recommendations.
The Program is required to make aggregate grant distributions equal to 5% of the Program's total assets (based on a five-year average). If the aggregate distributions are not met, the Program will ask donor-advisors of accounts that have not met the requirement on an individual basis to recommend grants and will make additional grants from such accounts if they fail to recommend qualified grantees. If there is no grant activity in a donor-advised fund account for five years, the Program will attempt to contact the donor-advisors to request that a grant recommendation be submitted. If notification efforts are unsuccessful or a grant recommendation is not forthcoming, the Program may determine that it is appropriate to transfer all or a portion of the account balance to the General Giving Fund of The T. Rowe Price Program for Charitable Giving.
*A $10 fee is charged to your account for each grant over the scheduled allotment in a given calendar year. This fee covers administrative costs associated with grant-making.
